Australian Preliminaries
After creating a live action performance with co-creator Mangalphantom for the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) Preliminaries at SMASHCON in Sydney, we placed 1st. This meant we were selected to represent Australia at the Summit in Nagoya, Japan, in August 2023.
Alongside 32 other countries, we performed a short live action from 'The Promised Neverland', for which we created two handmade costumes of the lead, Emma and the villain, Archduke Lewis.
The World Cosplay Summit is a global event that has been taking place for the past 20 years and has become wildly popular in the broader cosplay community. It not only includes the championship performance event, but several smaller events throughout the festival such as the Red Carpet Parade and Osu Events.
It was an incredible and unique opportunity to engage in Japanese culture this way, and I learnt so much on my first ever time in Japan. Hopefully it won't be the last, as I feel I still have a lot to learn there.
